Developing a robust digital platform to provide an immersive experience for 100s of artists' sites.
Sony Music Entertainment (Sony Music) is a global recorded music company with a roster that includes a broad array of both local artists and international superstars. Sony Music boasts a vast catalog that comprises some of the most important recordings in history. It is home to premier record labels representing music from every genre.
Sony Music turned to NorthPoint Digital to develop a robust digital platform to support 100s of these artists’ sites in order to provide fans with a highly customized, immersive experience that reflected their esthetics and offered them access to the latest news, streaming music and videos, photo galleries, tour schedules, ticketing options, chat and more. Our team worked on several artists’ sites including those for Kelly Clarkson, Glenn Gould, Michael Jackson, Ke$ha, and Roberto Carlos (Falcon).
Our team built the Ke$ha site to ensure that the site maintained the visitor’s state to provide an intuitive experience while inducing click-through action. Further, in order to increase stickiness, we enabled autoscrolling and the ability to filter content on the homepage - revealing a truly interactive experience.
The Kelly Clarkson site is integrated with CrowdTwist, which allows visitors to earn points by performing tasks on the site, which they can redeem through the CrowdTwist program. The user registrations and logins are synchronized between CrowdTwist and the Kelly Clarkson website itself.
For the Glenn Gould site, our team worked on the integration with M2, which provided product data used on the MyPlayDirect e-commerce platform. Albums and hard goods were made available through the website, after which MyPlayDirect handled the processing and fulfillment internationally.
Our team also built the commerce module and the front-end to the Michael Jackson site - which renders the entire store section of the site and shows products and product categories by location and availability.
Internationalization is a default option for Falcon, the premium tier of the platform for Sony artist websites. Every site on this platform is run on the same code base and physically within the same Drupal multi-site. The views, menu items, blocks and even global permissions use the same sites/all modules to power their websites. Further, every website on the platform benefits from platform-level updates, while allowing for site level flexibility for internal development teams, site administrators, and content editors.
